Abstract
Earthquakes, floods or large scale accidents – disasters confront people with vast problems. In such situations, affected people, volunteers and response teams are in need of detailed information. This is essential for taking action in a sustained and prompt manner. Especially when such events are about to unfold, the huge flood of available information represents an obvious problem when seeking for the most valuable data. We want to build a new platform on top of diretto that accepts this challenge by enabling this group of people to take part in a mobile, media-centric collaboration. People on-site submit various multimedia documents (e.g. images and videos) using a simple Smartphone Application to the platform. Remote helpers then analyze, rank and categorize the documents. Using Collective Intelligence algorithms, we want to deduce valuable information that helps people dealing with the information flood. Affected people on-site then again benefit from new findings that relates to their position.
Background
This project is a follow-up project to the initial diretto platform and has been funded by the MFG Stiftung Baden-Württemberg in the form of a Karl-Steinbuch scholarship.
